WELCOME to The Arts Society Amersham

We are a Member Society of The Arts Society (TAS). This is a leading arts charity which promotes the study of the history, social history, techniques and materials, design and manufacture and collections of: architecture, archaeology, painting, prints, sculpture, textiles, furniture, furnishings, costume, glass, jewellery, ceramics, enamel, metalwork, garden design and installation art; as well as the lives and influences of the artists, architects, craftsmen and patrons involved. We also include music, dance, theatre, literature and film.

It also promotes the preservation of artistic heritage by bringing together groups of like minded individuals through regular lectures, study days, visits, and tours. In addition, it promotes a number of volunteering activities, including Church Recording, Heritage Volunteering and a Young Arts programme.

There are over 360 societies across the UK, mainland Europe and New Zealand, and the sister organisation, ADFAS, in Australia.

What do we offer? We offer a wide-ranging programme of monthly lectures, all of which are delivered by acknowledged experts on their respective fields. We also have a comprehensive programme of visits, to Museums, Art Galleries and places of historic and artistic interest. Our Society provides an opportunity to learn, make new friends and have an enjoyable time sharing common interests.

Click on our Lectures and Visits pages to learn more.

There are three more important areas of our work:

  1. We support a dedicated team of Church Recorders each year.
  2. We donate money to local schools to support local initiatives to introduce children to the world of the Arts subjects.
  3. We give continuing support to our local heritage and plan to form a team of Heritage Volunteers to work with local projects to conserve items of historic importance.

You can find out more about our activities by exploring our website - do have a look. Your comments are always welcome. Why not get in touch with us via our ‘Contact Us’ section on this website.

We meet for lectures on the first Thursday of the month, except January, August and September at 8.00pm in the King’s Church, Raans Road, Amersham, Bucks. HP6 6LX. You are invited for coffee/tea with us from 7.15pm.

Dear Members,

Please remember to vote on the last lecture on Thursday 6th December entitled Misshapen Pearl - an overview of the music of the Baroque Era by Sandy Burnett.

Your committee is pleased to announce that the name of our bank accounts has now been changed to 'The Arts Society Amersham' in line with the resolution passed at the AGM.

REMINDER: You can now vote on a lecture on-line using this website and the link at the bottom of this page. The process is quick and simple! You can read the instructions in the document under ‘Documents’.

We wish you all a very happy Christmas and see you all in 2019.
